What's your vision for the Byron Shire?

Sharing selfies, big ideas and stories will drive a think tank on the future of Byron Shire as Council kicks off its engagement around ‘OUR BYRON, OUR FUTURE’ – a ten year aspirational plan.

Byron Shire Mayor Simon Richardson said residents, businesses and visitors needed to be front and centre in guiding the discussion about what the future should hold.

“We want to know what you value most and what the long-term direction for our community should be,” Mayor Richardson said.

“We will be ‘popping-up’ everywhere in the coming weeks to hear people’s big ideas for our future and we look forward to seeing you at workshops, talking with you at our pop-up stalls and hearing from you online at

“Your feedback will be used to develop our long-term promise to the community – Council's new Community Strategic Plan.

“The plan lays the foundation for our future vision, directs our future aspirations and supports the operational goals of Council.

“Our teams will work across a variety of diverse and in-depth consultation activities to hear from you and really encourage you to have your say.

"We really value your participation – we want to ensure we make the best decisions for our future.

“That's why we're excited to hear about your future aspirations and really keen to listen,” Mayor Richardson said.

A key aim of this process is to seek feedback from multiple stakeholder groups across Byron Shire and to tap into those sections of the community who are not usually part of engagement processes.

"You've told us that you feel positive about the natural environment, and hold a deep sense of commitment to your community – we want to honour and build on that feedback in the development of our new Community Strategic Plan,” Mayor Richardson said.

"Council is committed to seeking a high level of engagement across a variety of perspectives,” he said.
