Wilsons Creek Road – limited to vehicles under 5 tonnes

Motor vehicles travelling on Wilsons Creek Road, past the landslip site, will be restricted to under 5 tonnes until road repairs are finalised.

The road is currently restricted to one lane traffic and traffic controllers are onsite to assist from Monday to Fridays, from 7am to 4pm.

From 4pm weekdays and Saturday and Sunday, motor vehicles are advised to adhere to traffic signage, especially the give way sign, and be aware of oncoming traffic at the landslip site.

Byron Shire Council’s works manager Tony Nash said the traffic controllers would be in place during the week to assist with school buses and help children cross safely through the road works.

He said the geotechnical drilling has been completed and staff were currently waiting on the final report and options to permanently repair the road.

“The repair works will then need to be costed and funding approval secured under the disaster funding program,” he said.

Mr Nash said approximately $220,000 had been spent to date on temporary road repairs and providing traffic controllers for the area.
