Were you affected by the recent heavy rainfall in January?
Byron Shire Council wants to hear from anyone who experienced flooding during the recent heavy rainfall over the past month.
The information is being collected to help inform flood studies on the North Byron Coastal Creeks including the Brunswick River, Marshalls Creek and Simpsons Creek catchments.
Council’s infrastructure planning manager, Michael King, said information being sought includes photographs, location of the flood, water levels and date the flooding occurred.
“Information from past floods will be used to improve the computer model which is being developed as part of the study.”
Feedback from the community, Mr King said, will ensure local knowledge is captured to help inform flood risk management options.
All information will help inform two major flood studies being undertaken by Byron Shire Council. They include the Belongil Creek Flood Risk Management Study and Plan, and North Byron Coastal Creeks Flood Study.
The studies are being completed in conjunction with environmental consultants BMT WBM.
If you have any information that you think could be useful, please contact Jo Tinnion, Project Manager from BMT WBM on 07 3831 6744 or jo.tinnion@bmtwbm.com.au by Friday 2 March 2012.
When completed, the studies will review all relevant Council and state plans pertaining to land management, flood risk management, rising sea levels, climate change and emergency management.
Other information that will be used to help inform the studies includes the recent community flood surveys Council undertook in mid 2011.
