Proposed change to Public Health Regulations - FREE Swimming Pool Seminar

Proposed new Public Health Regulations may affect operators of public pools, holiday accommodation, learn to swim, aquatic exercise classes, diver training, backpacker accommodation, health spas and resorts.

Byron Shire Council’s governance manager Ralph James said proposed changes to the Public Health Regulation will mean new minimum standards of operation and monitoring for any swimming pool or spa pool which is used by members of the general public.

To outline the proposed changes, Council is running free seminars on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February for operators of swimming pools and spa pools service technicians.

Mr James said the draft Public Health Regulations appear not to affect private residential swimming pool operators, or spa pools in accommodation units which are emptied and cleaned after each use.

If you are interested in attending a short seminar conducted by Environmental Health officers on the management and monitoring of your public swimming pool or spa pool, contact Councils' Environmental Services on 6626 7164.

The courses are to be held between 1pm and 3pm on 8th and 9th February 2012 at the Byron Shire Council Depot training rooms on Bayshore Drive, Byron Bay.
