New Internal Audit Committee Member sought
Have an interest in finance, risk management, or governance? Then consider applying to join Byron Shire Council’s Internal Audit Committee.
General Manager Graeme Faulkner said the committee plays a vital role in ensuring that Council’s business systems and procedures are effective, promoted and monitored.
“The committee meets a minimum four times a year and Council last year agreed to increase the community members from two to three.”
The Committee member is to have significant qualifications, experience and skills in either financial matters or may have public sector corporate management, legal and risk management qualifications and experience.
Membership on the Internal Audit Committee will be for a term of 1 year, unless otherwise resolved by Council. The Committee member will be remunerated for sitting on this committee as stated in the Information Package.

The Audit Committee's primary function is to assist Council to ensure that:
- Business systems and procedures have been established by the Executive Team and are effective.
- Appropriate risks and exposures are effectively managed.
- A culture of adherence to Council policies and procedures is promoted.
- Statutory compliance is promoted and monitored.
- The audit processes (both internal and external) are effective.
- The external reporting is objective and credible
