New Year’s Eve 2010 - Stall holders and buskers wanted
Byron Shire Council is seeking buskers and market stall holders for the low key Byron Bay New Year’s Eve event.
Council is supporting this year’s event with a $25,000 funding contribution.
Byron Shire Mayor Jan Barham said with the success of recent years, the same formula is being adopted to ensure a safe, low key, community based and alcohol free New Year's Eve (NYE).
“Council has maintained its support for New Year’s Eve celebrations on the basis of a providing safe environment by the use of an alcohol prohibition on the streets and parks in Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads.
“The focus for the night is on low key, family friendly events featuring market stalls, buskers and amusement rides. I encourage locals and visitors to enjoy a safe evening of celebration and enjoy the community events,” Mayor Barham said.
The New Year’s Eve event in Byron Bay will feature market stalls amusement rides, buskers and the Samba Blisstas performing from 7.30pm. The event aims to focus activities on the beachfront reserve and minimise the impact on local businesses.
The twilight Byron Bay beachfront market will feature food, craft and artisan stalls. Council is particularly keen to hear from stall holders who feature local home made and home grown items, before Friday 17 December.
Community groups who would like to participate, are invited to join in free of charge to showcase their work and activities.

- Stall holder Fees: Food stalls $150, Craft Stalls $80, Community Group FREE
- Busking Permit Fees: One off application fee $20, 1 month permit $26, Annual permit $100
The streets and parks of Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads will have an alcohol prohibition for the NYE 24 hour period to ensure a safe and community friendly atmosphere.
To ensure the safe management on the night there are street closures to the beach that will commence at 6am on Friday 31 December. The road closures will mean that no parking is available at the beachfront that day while preparations are organised.
