Lavertys Gap Catchment


Mullumbimby lies in the in the heart of the Byron Shire. It is in catchment of the Brunswick River and is the service centre for the Brunswick Valley including the residents of Main Arm, Mullumbimby Creek, Wilson’s Creek, Goonengerry and Federal. The catchment sits within rich rainforests of the Bunjalung Aboriginal Nation on the edge of three Aboriginal tribal areas: Arakwal, Coodjinburra and Widjabul. The ridgelines are known to be a Dreaming Track for Aboriginal people and its rainforests were a rich food source.Mullumbimby’s water supply is sourced from Laverty’s Gap weir, an upper catchment system, of the Wilson’s River providing good quality water.
