International Women's Day

Internaional Womens Day Exhibition becomes an Annual Event

International Women’s Day will be celebrated in the Shire with an exhibition of photos and artwork, recognising and celebrating the inspiring women from our community.

Thursday 8 March - 5pm to 8pm
Mullumbimby Civic Hall
Dalley Street, Mullumbimby

The Exhibition and celebration has become an annual event of the Women’s Resource Service and Byron Shire Council, now in its third year, and continues to evolve into a unique celebration of the women in our Shire who have inspired, enriched and contributed to our community.

Held annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. Globally there is a web of rich and diverse local activity that connects women from all around the world that mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Women have been asked to nominate women in the Byron Shire by entering a photograph or artwork along with a story about their inspiration and/or achievements.

Nominations this year are in six categories including: Young Women; Cultural Women; Women in Groups; Women in Sport; Women in Community and; Women in Leadership.

This is an opportunity to honour women who have been positive role models, ambassadors, leaders, organisers and volunteers. Women have made many achievements over the century and International Women’s Day is about celebrating the positives, and acknowledging those who have made a difference in their community through their achievements whether economic, political or social.

Entries will be exhibited at an event in Mullumbimby on Thursday 8 March 2012.

Entry is free and entry forms and information is available at Byron Shire Council, Mullumbimby Neighbourhood Centre and shire libraries and can be downloaded via  Byron Shire council website at www.byron.nsw.gov.au/international-womens-day or the Byron Shire Women facebook site at www.facebook.com/womensresourceservice.
