Preparation for Parenthood Programs

These programs provide relevant, current information for pregnant women, their partners and support people.

The program aims to provide an environment in which you will gain knowledge and skills so you can make informed choices during your pregnancy, at the birth, and after the baby is born.

Topics include emotional and physical changes in pregnancy, stages of labour, when to come to hospital, breastfeeding, the newborn baby, parent crafting, postnatal adjustment for the family, community resources and birthing suite tours.

Pregnancy Support Group

Offers information, support, exercise and body work throughout pregnancy. Contact for midwives / doulas. Supports a woman’s choice in birth. Borrowing library available.

Birthing Services

The Byron Shire birthing service is integrated between Byron Bay and Mullumbimby Hospitals. Labour and delivery service is undertaken at the Mullumbimby Hospital. Post natal care is undertaken at both hospitals.

There are 3 low risk, single rooms with ensuites available. Water immersion for labor and delivery is offered. An early discharge program is available for mothers who wish to be discharged within 48 hours of giving birth.

Home Birthing

Homebirth Australia is a group of consumers and midwives committed to ensuring the survival of homebirth as a birth option for Australian women, with the overall aim of public funded homebirth across the country.

Multiple Births

The Australian Multiple Birth Association provides useful information for families with twins, triplets, quadruplets and more.

Breastfeeding

The Australian Breastfeeding Association is an organisation of people interested in the promotion and protection of breastfeeding. Amongst these are breastfeeding women and their partners and health professionals such as doctors, lactation consultants and midwives.
