Community Members Wanted - Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee

Council is extending the expression of interest period for this Committee until 29 June 2017. Appointments to this Committee will be determined at the 3 August 2017 Ordinary Council Meeting.

Would you like to contribute to the betterment of our Shire by joining a committee? 

Council is currently calling for nominations for community members to the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (previously the Internal Audit Advisory Committee).  

Candidates for membership of the Committee will need to demonstrate suitability on the basis of the following criteria: 

  • Providing oversight and advice to the Committee on relevant improvement opportunities, risk and compliance updates; 
  • Demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:
  •  Financial systems, processes and reporting;
  • Risk Management;
  • Governance and Compliance; and
  • Control processes and performance
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply analytical and strategic management skills and provide independent advice. 
  • Maintain an interest in Councils operations, levels of service, governance and implementation of the adopted policies and procedures of various areas of Council.

The term of appointment for new Committee members will be for the duration of the 2016 – 2020 term of Council. 

Committee members are entitled to a sitting fee and interested parties should provide an hourly rate based on approximately 50 hours contribution for a year.

Community Members Wanted - Sustainable Economy Panel

Would you like to contribute to the betterment of our Shire by joining a panel?

Council is currently calling for nominations for community and industry members to the Sustainable Economy Panel. 

  • Five industry members, each representing key economic driver industries in the Byron Shire economy – tourism, creative industries, agriculture & food production, education and business services.
  • Two community members who are not associated with any particular industry and of whom at least one is from a rural area.
  • One member from an environmental organisation or who has significant experience in the delivery of environmentally sustainable projects and/or activities.

Committee members will have an interest in a relevant industry sector, strong communication skills, a willingness to contribute and be capable of informing and motivating others.  They will readily act solely in the best interests of sustainable economic development in the Shire and will have the ability and willingness to be an ambassador, representing the Shire positively to media, industry organisations and visitors.

It is highly desirable that committee members have expertise in areas such as marketing, business development, business operations, experience with relevant community or regional organisations and an understanding of the current and future needs of the shire regarding the development of a sustainable economy.

Community Members Wanted - Heritage Panel

Would you like to contribute to the betterment of our Shire by joining a panel?

Council is currently calling for nominations for community and business members to the Heritage Panel. 

The Heritage Panel’s purpose is advise Council on how best to conserve, promote and manage Byron Shire’s heritage for future generations.

Candidates for membership of the Panel will need to demonstrate suitability on the basis of the following criteria:

  • People who live, work, or study in the Byron Shire LGA
  • Have a proven commitment, sensitivity, and understanding of issues relating to heritage issues in the Byron Shire LGA
  • Be an employee, or member of an organisation whose primary function relates to the preservation of heritage

Community Members Wanted - Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee

Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee

Requesting Community Membership

Would you like to contribute to the betterment of our Shire by joining a Committee?

Council is currently calling for nominations for community members to the Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee. 

The Committee will examine the implications of the 2017 flood event in Byron Shire and guide the preparation of the North Byron Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.  The Flood Plan will cover the main urban areas of Mullumbimby, Ocean Shores and Brunswick Heads.  The smaller surrounding urban areas will also be included.  A minimum of one representative from each urban area is desirable.

You do not need to have technical knowledge of hydraulics or flood modelling.  Council is looking for locals who have experienced flooding and want to support the preparation of a thorough and successful Floodplain Management Plan process.

Applicants should address the following questions:

How long have you lived in the area?

Which area of the Shire do you live in?

Have you ever been impacted by flooding and how?

Are you a member of other Council Committees, Panels or Project Reference Groups?

How have you been involved with previous floods?
