Sustainable Economy Panel

A panel is a group consisting of Councillors and specialist key stakeholders, with a particular interest in or expertise in the subject of the panel, which will assist Council in decision making relating to a particular matter. Panels do not have any executive power or authority to implement actions and all recommendations from these panels are reported to Council via a staff report for decision.

The role of the Sustainable Economy Panel is, independently of management, to report to Council and provide appropriate advice and recommendations on matters relevant to economic development and tourism in the Shire.

Purpose

The objective of the Panel is to work with Council and the Economic Development & Tourism unit of Council to generate and sustain employment and business investment in the Byron Shire that will strengthen the Byron Shire local economy in a sustainable manner.  The framework for meetings and actions is guided by the following key areas as agreed by the current Panel members:

1.         Emerging industries
2.         Public Private Partnerships
3.         Enabling infrastructure
4.         Planning and Design
