Communications Panel

A Panel is a group consisting of Councillors and specialist key stakeholders, with a particular interest in or expertise in the subject of the panel, which will assist Council in decision making relating to a particular matter. Panels do not have any executive power or authority to implement actions and all recommendations from these panels are reported to Council via a staff report for decision.

Panels are usually appointed for a 4 year term in line with Council elections unless otherwise resolved by Council. 

Purpose

The Committee is to facilitate strategic policy development on a range of communication issues concerning Byron Shire Council and to make recommendations to Council accordingly. The Committee will make recommendations to Council inclusive of the following objectives:

  1. To communicate, educate and engage the community with an integrated and consistent approach.
  2. To improve the access to information that clarifies Council’s policies, values and objectives to all stakeholders.
  3. To investigate new and emerging technologies to enhance effective communication between Council and community.

The Committee does not have the power to direct staff but will make recommendations to Council.
