Affordable housing
Council recognises that there is a shortage of affordable housing in the Shire and is working towards improving housing options.
Station Street, Mullumbimby affordable rental housing project
Council is investigating the development of the site between the Council carpark and community childcare centre in Station Street, Mullumbimby for affordable housing, see Byron Shire Council's Affordable Housing Development Station Street, Mullumbimby.
Caravan parks/manufactured home estates
Council called for an Expression of Interest (EOI) to identify suitable sites for the establishment of new caravan parks and manufactured home estates. Fifteen EOI’s were received and considered by Council at their meeting on 12 August 2010. Those sites that have merit will be further considered in the development of Councils Local Growth Management Strategy.
Affordable rural housing
Council recognises that some dwellings in rural areas may not have the necessary approval for lawful use as a house. An Affordable Rural Housing Options brochure has been developed to provide information on ways to rectify prior unauthorised works to gain approvals.
