The trial of coupon paid parking in Byron Bay CBD was completed on 31 May 2004. Byron Shire Council has resolved that ticket parking be retained at the Main Beach, Lawson Street north and south S94 car parks, while consideration is given to the introduction of paid parking in Byron Bay on a more permanent basis.
The main objectives of paid parking in Byron Bay are to maximise the use of scarce parking and reduce traffic congestion in the central business district. A benefit of paid parking is that Byron Shire Council can recoup some of the cost of maintaining and improving infrastructure in Byron Bay from those who frequently use it.
Resident parking stickers are applicable in these designated paid parking areas, however signposted times still apply. For information on how to obtain a resident parking sticker please contact Council on (02) 6626 7073.
Council has released the new 'Resident Parking Coupon' for use in the Council designated paid parking areas of Byron Bay. The new red parking coupon must be clearly affixed to the passenger side of the front windscreen of the vehicle to which it has been issued to be valid.
The old white 'CP' coupon is no longer valid and will not be accepted in the designated paid parking areas of Byron Bay. Residents who do not display a current valid red parking coupon will be required to pay to park by purchasing a ticket from the ticket machines provided.
Residents who have applied and are waiting for the delivery of their coupon are required to pay to park in designated paid parking areas. Residents are only entitled to park without paying once a valid coupon is clearly affixed to the passenger side of the front windscreen.
Vehicles that do not display a current valid resident parking coupon or machine purchased ticket in the designated paid parking areas of Byron Bay will be fined.
The current designated ‘paid parking’ areas of Byron Bay are: -
Please ensure you park according to sign posted time limits and directions.
In accordance with Council’s resolution, a resident parking coupon will be issued to each vehicle that is registered in New South Wales to a residential address in the Byron Shire.

Or they can be left at the Council building during office opening hours.
Resident parking coupons are an application process and are NOT issued over the counter. Coupons are returned by mail only.
From the three categories provided choose which one applies to your vehicle and provide all required information as required under that category.
Please note: If NO house number or only a Lot is evident on the certificate of registration and Council is unable to establish your residential status, Council will request further information in order to confirm your residential status and process your application.
Applications requiring that the coupon to be forwarded to a PO Box will be required to provide further information to verify their Residential Address (not PO Box).
The onus is on applicants to prove their residential address and status.
All required paperwork must be provided annually when applying for a Resident Parking Coupon, regardless if it is a new application or renewing a coupon for a vehicle to which one has been previously issued.
Resident parking coupons will only be posted out to the address as represented on the certificate of registration, or in the case of a business registered vehicle, posted to the address as represented on the driver’s licence.
Please ensure address details are correct on the certificate of registration prior to applying. If you need to change your address please change it with the Roads and Traffic Authority prior to applying.
There are minimum requirements residents need to provide in order to receive a resident parking coupon. Please note that it is the responsibility of applicants to ensure they provide the correct paperwork for processing.
The resident parking coupon is an annual coupon that residents are required to apply for each year. The expiry date of the parking coupon is closely aligned to the expiry date of the vehicles certificate of registration. Once the renewal certificate of registration has been receipted through the Road and Traffic Authority, residents need to provide the new valid certificate of registration (and any other required paperwork as described above) to Council for processing.
The onus is on residents to ensure they have a valid parking coupon whilst parked in the Council designated paid parking areas of Byron Bay
