In April 2007, Council engaged the Australian Regional Tourism Research Centre (ARTRC) at Southern Cross University to prepare a Tourism Management Plan. A Steering Committee has been formed to oversee the project.
The intention of the work is to identify and resolve issues surrounding the local tourism industry and plan for the future. Among other things, the project aims to develop a framework within which local business, community and government stakeholders can cooperate to facilitate sustainable tourism within the Shire.
Documents produced during to the study will be published on an incremental basis.
The consultation process will be robust and innovative.
A plan is expected to be ready by mid-2008.
